3 April 2014 – A short film about our walk in the mountains…

Posted on Updated on

[By Jason]

It was such a beautiful day yesterday that we decided to take a walk up into the nearby mountains, just northeast of Ushuaia on Tierra del Fuego. The walk through the valley had forests showing autumnal colours and the snow capped mountains were breathtaking, which inspired me to put this short film together.  We had the company of an adorable little dog (whom we named Bob), who adopted us as his travelling companions for the day.  He didn’t leave our side for the entire hike up to the lagoon at the top and back again.  We finished our walk on the outskirts of town, feeling tired but happy – our new friend without so much as a sideways glance trotted off back to his home back to his family. I wondered for a moment if this was Bob’s first time up the mountain, or may be he was a seasoned hiker, taking the uninitiated to his little piece of heaven.  If you happen to be walking the same trail and you see Bob, just tell him we said “Hi”.

What fantastic autumn colours on the trees. So different from the quiet of the snow and the music went right through me. Liked your 4 legged friend

    Hi Guys,

Great to see your posts and really enjoying the writing. Liked the video, it made me look at mine and to send you a reminder that you should trek in Tour Del Paine, an absolute must!! Great chocolate cafes as well!

You can also stay in the hostel in the park or camp, they also offer horse riding on the trails. Probably the place that impressed me the most as well as the glaciers, do both boat trip and hike.

Sounds like you are getting on with the bikes, steady eddy and enjoy the vast expanse!

Had to get my biking fix in last week in Southern Spain, joined spyder club for 4 days riding on a fleet of bikes. Great idea, they supply various bikes and you ride them. Ducati Panagalli 899, BMW T9, KTM super Duke, MV Augusta, you get the picture!!

I picked up my new adventure before the trip, it’s a beast of a thing but the engine is much improved. It’s just itching to visit Columbia later in the year! So let me know your plans as I am seriously looking at travelling, can ship to Bogota from the UK. Then travel North, possibly meeting Jen and the kids in Mexico? It’s around 2,000 miles, so could possibly work for the distance and can tie it in with a family trip whilst Jen visits her brother and family in Charlotte.

Have you any idea of when you might be in Columbia?

Overcast, 14C and rain predicted Saturday and Sunday, Yippee!!

Max is studying for GCSE, Lauren and Jen cancelled their Italy trip as Lauren had a 40 degree temperature, I should be working but so easily distracted with your video and thoughts of more travel whilst the bones can still make it!!!!

Stay safe and enjoy all you see and do

Hope to see you later in the year!!!

    Neil

Hi Neil, thanks for the stonking message you sent us above. Really good to hear from you chap. Good news is that it would be wonderful to see you at some point during this trip, bad news is that we don’t know when we’ll be in Columbia at this stage. Too early in our trip to plan that far ahead, so sorry. We’ll be sure to keep you posted but don’t hang on standby for us as we may change our minds as to where we want to be and when. Plan is not to plan! The Antarctic is not outside the realms of possibility yet, however, the season for that doesn’t open again until November. So who knows. Glad all’s going well for you and the family back home. Lots of love L & J xxx

Great video mate, looks like you’re both having a great time. Did you use your Go Pro’s for this? Not used your quadcopter yet then?

Thanks Stephen, I used the go pro for some of the low shots of my feet and Bob the dog. We have just come back from Tierra del fuego national park and its stunning so we are going back tomorrow and i’ll be taking the quadcopter, so watch this space.

Hi! Joseph from Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Found you via FB this morning and will follow your trip. Loved the video. Have another couple from Toronto On in Colombia at the moment. Started down over a year ago. Traveling slow on BMWs. Gene and Neda. Ridedot.com. You should pass each other eventually.

Thanks folks, I am looking forward to all your stages in information. I appreciate being able to follow you and I’ll probably say this again but it feels great getting it almost live. All the Best.
